Relatively slow-moving pieces of railway engineering kit are often transported to the work site by road, to avoid causing delays to regular services.

Sir Joseph Paxton, Head Gardener at Chatsworth House, was the designer of the Crystal Palace, originally in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851, and later at the site in South London now known as Crystal Palace. He designed and engineered many more innovative glass buildings in the UK and France. He was a Director of the Midland Railway. He was Liberal Member of Parliament for Coventry from 1854 until his death in 1865. His bust is located south of the National Sports Centre in the middle of the park.

This is one of three war memorials on War Memorial Green, Newhaven, East Sussex. The inscription reads: LEST WE FORGET TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPS OF ROYAL CANADIAN ENGINEERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE RAID ON DIEPPE FRANCE - 19TH AUGUST 1942 NEWHAVEN WAS AN EMBARKATION POINT and then goes on to list those who died. I did photograph these, but as can be seen above, the mottled stone and gilded lettering together do not make for easy reading.
