Fig feast 27 8 2023

The two Red Admiral butterflies were having a hard time getting a peaceful nibble at these very ripe figs. The bees, flies and wasps all wanted to benefit from the unpicked fruit, going to rot on the tree, overhanging a local pavement.

Hollyhock and Bumble Bee - 19 8 2023

I had been out to an event on the day before World Photography Day and was going out to another the following day, so I didn't go out snapping on the day. I took a few photos of flowers in our garden, in between tasks. This is the best of the bunch, but it doesn't seem different enough from many I have taken before, so I have contributed a more individual snap, from the following day, to the WPD group.

I am not 100% sure about the species of either the flower or the bee. In another shot the back of the bee's abdomen has a black leathery look to it.

Bee with a bit of leaf - East Blatchington - 24.7.…

This bee, slightly bigger than a honey bee, was spotted on the back of a garden chair with this chunk of leaf. By the time I got my camera, it had moved onto a currant bush. It then flew off carrying its leaf over the garage roof and away. Logically it should be a Leaf-cutter Bee, but it looks hairier than ones I can see in my reference book and on line. Does anyone have an accurate identification, please?

I liked the way she stretched out her legs to get the height to plunge into the nectar!
