The two Red Admiral butterflies were having a hard time getting a peaceful nibble at these very ripe figs. The bees, flies and wasps all wanted to benefit from the unpicked fruit, going to rot on the tree, overhanging a local pavement.

This is the fly on a flower that ended up a swirling abstract concoction in the neighbouring shot. This one has had its own Photoshop treatment - rather glam for a fly - but why not?

Trying to add to my 'Bees on flowers' contributions, I snapped this lady in a fur coat, only to find, on consulting Collins Complete British Insects, that she is in fact a fly. The way the wings are folded should have told me that.* Mind you I suppose we should be grateful to all the pollinating insects, not just bees. *I think I spotted bees with wings folded like that, while looking for another identification, so maybe I need to revisit this one!
