Details of the sculptures on this building can be seen at www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/25875055 This was claimed to be the largest hop exchange in the country, selling hops from Hereford in the west of England and Kent in the east and various places in between. Nearby breweries accounted for a large proportion of the capital's beer production. There were still horse-drawn drays delivering the products when I first started work in Southwark in the mid-'60s.

This is an old industrial building now used for offices and studios, I think. It is about five minutes walk from the Shard and just across the Thames from the City of London and it skyscrapers.
