Phil Sutters' photos with the keyword: gate

This coat of arms has been identified as that of Sir John Lister-Kaye, 4th Baronet, who was Lord Mayor of York 1737-38. That would tie in with the date of reconstruction shown in the panel beneath the arms.

Definitely the most awkwardly posed horses I have ever seen, quite apart from the Pegasus wings.

The previous photo only showed the view through the gate towards the church. The view of the pond is just as delightful.

This gate is across a public footpath. I didn't measure it but it cannot be more than 18" wide, probably nearer 15". I assume it was designed to stop bikes or something else being ridden through. I have seen V shaped openings before and of course stiles bar similar use, but this type of barrier is a new one to me. I am just glad that I wasn't a couple of stone heavier and correspondingly wider.
