Environmental commentary - A typical scene from the era of coal - a heavy goods locomotive hauls a train of hopper wagons, which may have been carrying coal or iron ore. While the grainy quality of the print makes everything look more dark and gloomy, in reality buildings alongside such railway lines in urban areas were covered in layers of soot.

Two more of my forty-year-old SDJR models. These were both made fairly early in the S&D period of our modelling when the use of stable Hornby Dublo chassis were preferred, to ones made by sticking white-metal axle guards onto plasticard under-frames.
