Cuckmere Haven - 21.10.2016

The Cuckmere meanders are lakes formed by the diversion of the main flow of the Cuckmere River along a more-or-less straight channel from the Exceat Bridge to the sea. The meanders are tidal to some extent, as the river flows into them at high tide, but the water is retained by sluice gates. They are home to a wide variety of wildlife.

Three views of our local pond, maintained by a group of volunteers, uploaded in response to the call for Spring photos, for the benefit of those who may 'miss' Spring because of the restrictions in place due to the current health emergency.

This was an experiment in using the panorama setting on my compact camera vertically. I have actually cropped a few straggly branches off the top of the picture.

It was the curled, dried leaves that took my eye with this clump of teazles, rather than the neater seed heads.

One of three photos taken at Bishopstone pond - not staggering images, but a good basis for larking about in Photoshop Elements.

One of three photos taken at Bishopstone pond - not staggering images, but a good basis for larking about in Photoshop Elements. This was the original for this image www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26316191 *Other photo manipulation software packages can produce this effect! Sometimes just pushing the saturation slider way over to the right is all that's needed!

20.4.2012 - Another sighting - in the water. Although I saw the Red-eyed Slider swimming, initially I only managed to photograph the ripples as it dived, but then after a few minutes' wait took a few photos of its head as it swam along, before diving again.
