The shorter route back to Coniston follows the path you can see here. A few people went that way, but I opted for the longer route via the top of Dow Crag which you can see looming to the right.

The tarn is at about 560 metres, so I've already ascended more than 500 metres (but the toughest part is about to start)

It's a steep zig-zag path from Low Water up to the summit of the Old Man. Levers Water is just in sight as well
