Former premises for builders and contractors (possibly a factory or warehouse), built sometime between 1871 and 1892. Now a luxury home with five floors of living space, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an indoor garage, a gym and a home-theater room.

Note the pots. This is in the heart of what was known as the piggeries and potteries, an area that Dickens dubbed the worst slum in London in the 19th century.

Mission Hall, also known as St. Mary’s Church Hall, at nos. 39/41 Mary Place dates from the latter part of the nineteenth century. The hall is constructed from stock brick which has been painted white at a later date. The brickwork is embellished with pilasters and round moulded string courses. The roof is even pitched with a covering of natural slates with red clay ridge tiles. Y-tracery windows to the gable end of the main hall above the principal entrance are prominent architectural features and are in contrast to the simpler and modest vertical sliding sash windows on the adjacent gable at second floor level. The principal entrance door is two leafed with a mullion panelled design with strap hinges and a mullioned transom light above. A timber glazed screen and entrance door to the rounded arch to the east forms a less formal entrance to the residential and studio spaces and secondary entrances to the west comprise a vertically boarded door and decorative iron gate. A recessed panel to the front of the building has a highly detailed painting of St. George and the Dragon on a gold background which references the current name of the property. The building was converted to studio space and living accommodation in the mid 1970s.

There was a major fire here, with significant loss of life, in 2017. The tower block, owned by Kensington and Chelsea Council, is now sheathed in plastic while they figure out what to do with it. Knocking it down will be difficult as it's full of toxic substances.

The original plan for the Westway included off and on ramps on the north side of the roundabout, mirroring the ones on the south side, but they were never completed. goo.gl/maps/1ceo1nobkrd1HbnM9

Lots of things go on underneath the Westway. There's a sport/fitness centre, a Travelers community with horse stables, and we saw various trailers and craft service vehicles for the filming of something.

Freston Road goes under the railway here at Lockton Street W10. Scenes from the films Withnail and I and The Lavender Hill Mob were shot here. The arches were used in Rick Astley's video for "Never Gonna Give You Up," which went on to RickRoll fame.

Malcolm and Jane reflected in a window of the George Building in Nicholas Road. Notting Dale used to be a very run down area and swaths of it were knocked down to build the Westway, with residents relocated to council flats elsewhere. Now, Notting Dale is becoming trendy. The People's Hall, Freston Road W11. The focal point of the Frestonia community, this is the only significant building from the Frestonian independence period still standing on Freston Road itself, and was the location for the recording of much of The Clash's album Combat Rock.

In the mid-1970s, the residents (artists, musicians, actors, writers, squatters, activists, etc.) of this area declared it the Free and Independent Republic of Frestonia and attempted to secede from the UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frestonia
