Palimpsest of real and faux ghost signs, Upper Street, Islington
Here's what Sam Roberts has to say about this sign in his book Ghost Signs: A London Story:
"This is the second faux ghost sign on this wall inspired by the original signage advertising the Hare and Hounds Garage. This took its name from th coaching inn that could be found here as far back as 1808.
"The first overpainting was done in 2008 for the Albert & Pearl pub. This borrowed visual elements from the earlier sign but at the expense of the original. In 2012 the Hous of Wolf sign was printed by the scenic artist Tabby Riley, again with a ghosted aesthetic. The advertising strategy appears to have failed, with both businesses lasting less than five years."

Nothing to do with the Hidden River Fleet, but I liked the look of this old garage door in Wicklow Street.

These signs were horribly damaged with graffiti several years, then whitewashed by the owners of the parking garage to cover the unsightly mess. In 2021, they were painstakingly restored and now look fabulous. AEC Regent III RT4712. The route is pretty much the same today as it was in the 1950s, except that it terminates at John Lewis rather than the British Museum.

Routemaster RM2 was the second of the four prototypes ordered by London Transport. It was built at LT's Chiswick Works with the combined skills of London Transport, AEC & PRV. It was rapidly modified with changes as a result of the experiences with RM1 and was taken into LT's stock in March 1955.

B2737 is one of four surviving B-type buses in known existence. It began service in January 1914 on Route 9 between Barnes and Liverpool Street. When the First World War broke out, it was commandeered by the War Department. It has now been restored with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the support of London Transport Museum Friends.
