Lauderdale House garden, Waterlow Park. The inscription reads:
How well the skilful gardener drew
Of flowers and herbs this dial new.
Where, from above, the milder sun
Does through a fragrant zodiac run.
And, as it works, the industrious bee
Computes its time as well as we.
How could such sweet and wholesome hours
Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers.
Andrew Marvell (1620-78)
The poet's home was nearby and is marked by this plaque on Highgate Hill:

The dial plate is level with the top of the dome of St Paul's Cathedral. So is the ladybug.

I'd never seen a pink plaque (women's history) before. This one is for two sisters, artists and educators, who founded the Channing House School to educate girls and young women in 1885. The school is still going today, with a Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form College.
