The first public drinking fountain in London, a gift of Sam Gurney M.P. in 1859. Erected on Holborn Hill (now Snow Hill), removed when Holborn Viaduct was constructed in 1867. I think the steeple is the City Temple Church, Holborn Viaduct. I was in Shoe Lane, very close to Charterhouse Street. See where this picture was taken. [?]
