Lighthouse 2

The lighthouse never functioned as a true lighthouse on the Thames. It was used to test different lights for brightness by viewing them from across the Thames. Trinity Buoy Wharf, Orchard Place, Poplar

Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Lighthouse 1

The original lighthouse was built by James Walker, the engineer of Trinity House (the corporation that was responsible for lighthouses, navigation aids, buoys, etc.), in 1852, and was demolished in the late 1920s. The surviving lighthouse was built in 1864-6 by James Douglass for Trinity House. It was used for lighting trials for Trinity House's lights around England & Wales. Michael Faraday also carried out experiments there. Trinity Buoy Wharf, Orchard Place, Poplar

Big Buoy

Part of this area had been called Bog Island in the 19th century. It was a very isolated and insular place, on a spit of land cut off from the rest of Poplar. At one time, of the 140 kids who attended the local school, 100 shared the same surname. Trinity Buoy Wharf, Orchard Place, Poplar

I went with the Wilton's Weekly Walk group to Trinity Buoy Wharf, Orchard Place, Poplar. Lots of artists have studios in the container city at TBW, and there's art all around. inspiringcity.com/2014/04/01/first-weekends-at-the-boilerhouse-1954-on-trinity-buoy-wharf-one-of-londons-hidden-treasures
