People's Museum, Phoenix Road, Somers Town. These (above) are original washline finials, made of Doulton stoneware, which had been nicked and were acquired by the museum. See my photos of the Sidney Estate to see the reproduction finials on the top of the clothesline poles (below).

Sidney Estate (social housing), opened in 1938 in Somers Town. The decorative ceramics are by sculptor Gilbert Bayes. The lunettes above balconies are made of Doulton stoneware and depict scenes from fairy tales. The finials on the top of washing line poles (also Doulton stoneware) are sailing ships. The General Post Office (GPO) used to stand nearby, and post office workers would eat their lunch in the churchyard of St Botolph-without-Aldersgate. The park opened in 1880 and the memorial wall erected in 1900. The memorial wall is Grade II listed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postman%27s_Park
