IKEA Ledare - glue failure

This is one of their old 400lm LED lights. It still works, but the glue formerly holding the glass dome has failed after about 1.5 years.

Lousy heatsink contact

I wonder why it died today. It's not the first time I played Quake4... damn! I could easily insert a bit of copper/brass foil + thermal goop to restore proper contact. But without an hot-rair station there's no way to give the RAM-chips a treatment that might revive the card.

Playing too much Quake4 ;-(

It isn't even hot here. Room temperature is about 22°C and all case fans are operational. If I had a hot-air thingy I could try to reflow the RAM chips. But a replacement card is much cheaper than getting a cheap hot-air station. Maybe I will keep the card for experimenting with it later.

An Admin's nightmare

Something I don't want to see again - EVER.

3 of these just failed

Initially I was very pleased with these 5 chip 1/2 Watt LEDs I acquired from ebay. For testing I ordered 10pcs of the warm-white type (100,000 mcd @ 100mA), which are shown here, and 10 pcs of neutral/cool-white (120,000 mcd @ 100mA). NONE of the latter have failed so far. I use constant current LED drivers, therefore it shouldn't have been over-current that has killed them. 3 in a row. Now will I use these, or search for equivalent/better SMD types? As it turns out, I won't use the warm-white type at all, it doesn't look good on the kitchen counter at all.

I don't remember abusing this connector. It stopped working today.
