Kneading a bit of Sugru

It smells a bit like toothpaste. At least that's what I associate with it.

Time for cleaning... again!

Bike damaged by my heavy U-lock

All fixed with SUGRU

No more rattling and disintegration of my bike's frame. Unfortunately the read spacer is a bit too large and now I keep hitting the U-lock with my left foot. I'll have to see if I can adjust my way of moving my left foot or if I'll have to redo this hack.

Quick fix with some Sugru

Knead it a bit until it becomes sticky. It smells a bit like toothpaste or maybe like some vicious substance preferably used by dentists. Surfaces that should not be adhered to should be treated with a bit of dishwasher fluid and water.

I thoroughly cleaned the frame with isopropyl alcohol before applying the putty. To transfer the shape of the U-lock into the putty, I used good old dishwasher fluid mixed with water to keep it from sticking where it shouldn't. As you can see I hadn't cleaned the U-lock well enough and a bit of chain lube got embedded into the anti-rattle-buffer.

I used used solder wick instead of a piece of wire. No extra flux required ;-)

All wired up

The diode is used to drop the voltage a bit. I could have used one with 0.5V, but this one was better than nothing. Ideally I would have needed a 3Ohm resistor - which I didn't have. 0.22Ohm would have been no problem... The 5 white LEDs are wired in series and the rectified voltage of the lamp is suitable for not overdriving them. I probably should have built a constant current source, but I lack the proper resistor values... transistors: yes, useful low valued resistors: no. And yes, I know about wiring them up in parallel.

I drilled the hole by hand, literally. My rechargeable drill was dead, so I just grabbed the drill and twisted it. I love it!
