Serial header

Adding the jumpers while soldering keeps the pins from bending. The plastic melts easily.

Split female header

You'll need the two 6pin headers. The plastic is quite brittle and breaks easily. Sometimes in strange ways.

Cutting the header

You'll want to keep the left part of it, so make sure not to destroy it. In case of doubt sacrifice the small part to the right.

0.1-in female header - springy things

15 Dec 2011 78
I had soldered one of these onto the MBI5168 breakout boards and some sockets simply refused to accept a wire. First I removed the springy things and replaced them with new ones. Still didn't work. Pulled them out again and the replacement parts were bent out of shape as well. Turns out the inside is f*cked up, probably some error in the molding process.

Lousy 'constant' current source

19 Jun 2011 173
Not really a constant current source. At least not really independent of supply voltage. With the addition of a Zener diode it could be improved a bit. A 2 transistor variant would be better. Or just buy an LM317 straight away. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Current_source

Does this one have any dual use issues?

Throwing it wouldn't work, but I bet I could do some serious poking with it. Nasty little headers...
