It is surprisingly hard to find those semi-insulated binding pots. Most of the available ones are fully insulated.

Each of those is worth 6 scoops of ice at one of the Italian Ice Cafés in town. If the scoops are big or hilariously small depends on location.
The red caps are 38¢ each. The fit is surprisingly loose. I would have liked them to stick firmly and not pop off easily.

I'll try to use this as a position sensor for one of the brake cables on my bike.
Thought of strain gages or hall sensors to sense the tension in the cable, but this seems to be the cheapest way to do it.
Position doesn't really map 1:1 with tension (= braking force), but it will be close enough to use it.

A small SMD potentiometer of the 'Bourns' brand. 2kΩ
I ordered 100 and got 101 ;-)
Now where are my PCBs, the P-MOSFETS, ... I really despise waiting for deliveries.

Lousy 'constant' current source

Not really a constant current source. At least not really independent of supply voltage. With the addition of a Zener diode it could be improved a bit. A 2 transistor variant would be better. Or just buy an LM317 straight away.

I added a 3V battery to pull the p-ch gate to -3V. It improves the R(ds)-on at small positive input voltages, but completely defeats the reverse polarity protection. ARGH. I do have to add a Schottky diode at last.

It will be used for adjusting current.
Unfortunately I couldn't get a metric version of this thing. Now I have to deal with a 1/4-in shaft. Yuck. The range of available knobs for non-6.0mm-shafts is rather limited.
