If these Li-Ion batteries were shorted out, you would probably end up with a bang. Each battery had a short-circuit current of about 10A! - although they wouldn't hold a useable charge anymore.

I'm discharging these through a 169Ω resistor. Dumping them into the recycling container with some charge left is too dangerous.
