Well well well. This is what was laughing at me after touching the other side with the iron for just one second. Instant delamination. No internal plating at all ;-(

Fortuitously I deviated from my usual routine and wanted to install the headers first. Otherwise I would have found out about this @#!%& through hole after putting on all of the SMD components. I tried to remove the blockage by melting it away, but that didn't work. It just didn't melt.
