Saint Martin of Tours was founded in 1897, at the request of Bishop Charles McDonnell, the second bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn. At that time, the Parish served the 25 to 30 known Catholic families of the Seaford, Massapequa, Amityville and Copiague areas. During the summertime, this number increased by another 10 to 20 families. Today, the Parish serves approximately 2,500 enrolled families, with its physical boundaries having been reduced significantly to include portions of Massapequa and Amityville.
