OK, gone Bat-hunting. I don't think the flashlight hurts or distracts them; for one thing, they don't have good eyes, and they kept flying around my head, whether I was taking pictures or not. Next time I think I'll take my external flashlight to increase sharpness and make a smaller aperture possible.
