Really?

Possibly the lowest navigable bridge on the main canals, this leads through to a quiet almost lake-like pool. It's alongside the building which was apparently the progenitor of the squatting movement. Seen from one of the traditional boats that are restored and used for excellently relaxed, go-where-you-like tours arranged by the independent volunteers from the comedy bar at the corner of Leidseplein. www.amsterdamboatclub.com

Neigh way

A bridge just for the wild horses of Bodmin Moor. Not the most interesting of shots perhaps, but I do like the sky, and it's not so bad for a mere cameraphone.

Tranquility amidst the refurbishment

14 May 2008 62
The whole of Sefton Park is being ripped to pieces, with the ultimate aim of putting it all back together again. Various people are deeply unhappy at the collateral damage: a number of trees and, with an official Environment Agency license, birds' nests, even with eggs or chicks in, at the height of waterfowl nesting season. This little spot seems untouched, for now, apart from the low water level revealing a lot of silt. And the lost-looking birds wandering about.

This is up fairly near to where my mum lives, and where we did Christmas this year.

Hello!

Waving, I presume, and not drowning. I have no idea who he is.

Arches and slopes

I couldn't get a photo of this with which I was really happy, so I'll distract you with words instead. This is in the grounds of Blair Castle, a particularly good country estate, where the Duke is unique in the whole of Europe in being able to legally maintain a private army. Nowadays it's purely ceremonial, but as recently as the Second World War, the Atholl Highlanders served with the British Army.

Bridge out

Look carefully and it looks like this bridge only ever went to an island — not to the far side of the river! It always seemed to me like a hell of a lot of bridge just for that. Perhaps the river (the Dee in Aberdeenshire) has altered over the years, or had recently flooded when I saw this... Canon compact zoom, Fuji print film, Epson 4490 scan.

Bond's boat

Apparently holder of a speed record for going round the world. But don't quote me on that. It certainly looked fast.

Bridge art

Shamelessly manipulated cos it was otherwise a fairly unsatisfying photo without enough contrast. But I do love the way such street artists can be found even in grimy London. One associates them so much more with Venice or at least Paris...

Strong bridge?

Andorra. Taken with a disposable film camera. (And not cleaned up at all, hence the remaining fringing on that flag in particular. But I like it like this.)

Closed old bridge, Albania

09 Aug 2010 76
Albania's new roads are quite simply astonishing. What was once several days of journeying is now accomplished in hours. This old bridge was once a compulsory part of the scary trek from Kosova, via Rubik, to Tirana. Truck was once towed across it while having "propshaft issues"... you could see through the concrete to the river below. This photo is from the set "Albania — Jane's photos", all of which are from the Aid Convoy preliminary trip to Bathore / Kamza, near Tirana, Albania, where we resurrected our project there. This set – readily identified by the lack of a black border around each photo – shows photos not taken by me, but by my colleague Jane. I don't normally upload other people's photos but these are here to complete the story when seen in conjunction with mine (with black borders), in the "Albania 2010" set.
