Boats queue up to get into Aberdeen harbour, just like aeroplanes over Heathrow. It's kinda surprising to see how busy it still is. I love the way most boats now have a huge area on the side marked out as a "rescue zone" — the harbour looks a bit like the base of International Rescue ;)

The two large blocks of concrete sitting next to each other on the right of the picture are "Mulberry harbours", which were constructed in large numbers and towed over to assist with offloading on the beaches during the D-Day landings in Normandy. At the top left is Chesil Beach, which also has a wartime connection — the lagoon was used for testing of Barnes Wallace's "bouncing bomb".
