Prishtine morning kids

15 Nov 2007 113
This is one of Suzi's, from our July/August 1999 trip to Kosova. I don't like to upload photos that aren't by me, but I've wanted to refer to this one a couple of times, and it just makes life so much easier to have it here! :) The kids in the photo lived around the house of Valon, our friend who looked after the whole bunch of we convoyers. Every morning they'd be first up, and waiting to pounce when we emerged, and we'd sit for a while drawing pictures, swapping language, and eventually these were the kids who I asked to paint their messages over the side of Truck, in reply to the messages painted on the other side by kids from Aberdeenshire.

Finlay & Heather

A heavily manipulated / rescued shot. I had the polariser stuck on and nowhere to put it even if it would come off, so all the shots from the museum are just too dark and motion-blurred, despite the image stabiliser.

(don't) leave me driftwood

...on the shore (With apologies to the Moody Blues. I'm feeling a little bit like driftwood juuuuust at the moment, so this wreckage on Brighton beach yesterday is kinda appropriate.) Don't miss the kid on the springy bit. His dad is standing on the other end, holding him up. This, clearly, makes everything in the world somehow all right. :-)

Some kids in the Skanderaj region of Kosova. We were thronged every time we stopped; fascinating weird foreigners, blundering through people still revelling in the joy of the end of the war. Notice the sneaky fag in one kid's hand. They were about 1DM a packet. www.aidconvoy.net Taken with a little Canon compact zoom, probably on Fuji 400 (from memory.)

Landie at Zamglai

09 Feb 2006 78
Landie (currently somewhat missing-in-action) with some of the girls from Zamglai, who really love posing for photos. Digital cameras are such an amazing tool here, because we can be sure they actually get to see themselves in the pics! Zamglai is an "internat" - a sort of orphanage. Here the inmates, all girls, are looked after by the staff who are paid only as often as can be afforded. The older girls look after the younger ones, and the more capable help the less capable. Some of them are orphans, many simply can't be looked after at home. When they reach 24 they will either try to live together, and continue to look after each other, or will often end up in an asylum. www.aidconvoy.net Incidentally, the Landie has since been stolen - if you happen to see a discovery which looks as though " www.aidconvoy.net " has been removed from its doors, do please let me know...

This is actually the middle of a world-class jumping (off kerbs) competition ;) I've no idea of the winner, though. Me, perhaps.
