Our happy little band of chilled-out relaxing holidayers - Dorset, summer 2008, in lieu of going to Cornwall as usual!

Lulworth Castle

Not really a castle at all, but a Jacobean hunting lodge built in very romantic style. This photo is a little homage to one I found inside the castle. After a catastrophic fire, it was empty for many years. The equivalent photo, taken during its ruin and before restoration, has a deal more romance thanks to weeds growing up through the steps.

The awesome Riviera Chalet Hotel, Bowleaze Cove. A former Pontin's.

Pedalo snakes

Portland harbour

The two large blocks of concrete sitting next to each other on the right of the picture are "Mulberry harbours", which were constructed in large numbers and towed over to assist with offloading on the beaches during the D-Day landings in Normandy. At the top left is Chesil Beach, which also has a wartime connection — the lagoon was used for testing of Barnes Wallace's "bouncing bomb".
