...of getting about. After taking this, I discovered that it was not some training exercise but a real tragedy — a man had dived from the pier to try to save his apparently-drowning dog. In the end it was he who drowned. I never found his name, but rest in peace sir.

The rest is just nice sunlight. Actually, the mobile phone camera failed to really get it, but the sunlight was gloriously golden, so here you go: a lost moment of January light. It's more here to document the fact that going back to Brighton for the day, and kinda forgetting to leave for the weekend, is brilliant. And I feel refreshed. And 2008 just may actually be a new year.

I just love this. It cost me doughnut and a lot of patience. Try to work out how come the pier is running parallel to the coast ;-) Nikon fixed-zoom automatic (!)

The white stone around the south coast of Britain is really striking in the summertime. Here, just outside Brighton, a track has been carved right down through them to let emergency vehicles get down to the shore.
