Dalmation Pelican (+ PiP)

Another image of one of the pelicans at WWT Arundel plus another in the PiP. The pelicans have their flight feathers trimmed annually to prevent them from flying off. This seems cruel but this species of pelican has declined greatly over the past 100 years. The most likely reason is habitat loss due to human activities such as the drainage of wetlands and land development. These ones are part of conservation efforts taking part throughout Europe.

I thought converting on of my Pelican shots to black and white would be a good idea. I'm quite pleased with this and hope you like it too. A reminder of my previous post featuring these birds: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/50714840 Please view large, on black. Thanks for looking.

Since last year WWT Arundel has introduced some Dalmation Pelicans to the reserve. Their new pond and surroundings are really lovely, but not very photography friendly. Unless the birds are on the water it is almost impossible to get a photo of one without a fence in the background. You'll note that their wings are clipped as well, which is obviously to stop them flying off........but such a shame :-( There's another image in the PiP. Thanks for looking!
