Hinton Ampner House and Gardens

Hinton Ampner House and Gardens is a National Trust owned property near Winchester in Hampshire, about a 40 minute drive away. We took advantage of a rare sunny day to visit last week, but it was very disappointing. Nearly all the grounds were roped off because of the heavy rains and some of the house was closed due to conservation work. On the plus side we had a nice lunch in the café before driving home again. Better than sitting around indoors though :-)) A history of the place here if you are interested ; www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/hampshire/hinton-ampner/the-history-of-hinton-ampner

The Apple Store, West Dean Gardens

This rather splendid apple store is in the corner of the Walled Garden. Even in the autumn the gardens are really worth visiting, especially in the sunshine we had at the beginning of the month. The PiP shows a nice little scene in one of the other corners of the Walled Garden. Thanks for looking.

All Saints Church, Hinton Ampner

A view of the church looking along one of the many formal pathways in the gardens. Either sides of the pathway are small orchards and wild flower meadows, and you can see mistletoe growing in the branches on the tree, top right. Best viewed large if you have time. Thanks to everyone who has visited my photo-stream over the past week, especially those who have commented and/or left me a yellow star. Much appreciated :-)

Uppark House

Yesterday, we took a drive out to Uppark House and Gardens (National Trust). Although the house is closed (due to the corona virus) the gardens were open free of charge to the public. There were quite a few people there, but the gardens are very large and everyone seemed to be behaving responsibly and keeping well away from everyone else, which was good to see. We took a picnic lunch and had a lovely few hours out and some fresh air. Sadly it seems that the National Trust have had to close their gardens as well from today, due to a minority of the public being seemingly incapable of following Government advice to practice Social Distancing, putting all of us at more risk! We are fortunate in that we live very close to the coast and also some wonderful countryside, so as long as we are able (and allowed) we will continue to make the occasional foray out. Unlike some, we are also fortunate to have a garden to use as well. We feel very lucky under the circumstances. Some information on the house and gardens in the link, if anyone is interested: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/uppark-house-and-garden

You'll notice a lot of the outside gardens are not yet in full flower. We'll definitely be going back later in the year.

This is the view from my daughter's first floor flat in Exmouth taken through the double glazing. I find it fascinating and can spend ages just looking through the window. There is always something different to look at.
