Small Mammal Skull and Bones (+PiP)

14 Jan 2024 22 30 184
Some more from my granddaughter's bone collection. These bones are obtained from Owl pellets, which are the mass of undigested parts of it's food that it occasionally regurgitates. These are the bones of small mammals.........probably mice, voles for something similar. Owl pellets can be found near where they roost..........but most people (including my granddaughter) purchase them online. They then just need cleaning etc. Fascinating stuff..!! There's another image of these bones in the PiP together with the Gull's skull from my previous images.

I'm currently stuck indoors with a nasty cough and cold, but luckily my granddaughter let me borrow a few items from her bone collection to play with. This is the skull of a Gull and I used a bit of driftwood to photograph it on. There are two more shots from different perspectives in the PiPs. I have another couple of shots to show yet on another day. Thanks for looking!

This was taken on South Parade Pier, Southsea, Hampshire, where some pieces of fairground equipment were being stored after the fair was closed due to Covid-19. This was on the side of one of them.

Probably from a sheep. Another image from Butser Hill ancient village in Hampshire. The skull was fixed into the thatch above the door of a roundhouse, probably to discourage evil spirits.

Trick or Treat...............

Found in the New Forest. I think it looks like an animal skull. Please view large, on black. Thank you.

The image of the skull and crossbones is deeply entrenched in the minds of millions around the world as the symbol of piracy, death and even poison. Difficult to believe that any of these apply to a small boatyard on the River Hamble - which is where I found this!

You give them power.......
