Comfrey

In 1980 a friend brought us some comfrey to plant in our new garden. He said it produced delicious greens. And just as much as nowadays, I loved greens. It grew well, but we didn't like the greens: a hairy texture and a tooth-hurting oxalic-acidity. I tried cutting down the plant to plant something else but it came back from the roots the following year -- and twice as big. The third year it was twice as big again. It was a monster that I thought might take over the garden. So I spent the following couple of years digging it up and destroying its roots. I got rid of it. Whew. But it is a pretty plant. When I saw some growing late this afternoon in my favourite park, in a part that used to be a family farm, I took some pictures.
