Hereabouts, we are all marvelling at an early spring and, the past couple of weeks, I have had conversations almost every day about it. Normally, I don't see forget-me-nots in bloom until mid or late June. Nearly a hundred years ago they became the iconic flower of memory of losses during the First World War on Newfoundland's Memorial Day, July 1st. They were usually in bloom at that time. I don't think I've seen one in bloom in May before. But here, in my backyard this evening, is one of a dozen or so early blooms of it.
