This was today. Our provincial government has decided to look after rich folks' purses by closing a lot of services used by poorer folks, like libraries and health clinics. They've reduced funding for university students. And they've instituted a tax on books. And they've instituted a new tax which hits poorer people proportionally harder than rich folks. In a classic Let-Them-Eat-Cake statement about closing libraries, the minister responsible for schools and libraries said something to the effect of "Oh, no problem -- everyone uses e-books these days." Yeah. Right. A lot of us are pissed off. It was a good demonstration of that, too.
