The Grand Ledge Trestle

Carrying CSX across the Grand River. Before Chessie bought the line this was a Pere Marquette structure. Photo taken 7/29/2007.

Approaching Ludington

From SS Badger, backing into her home port.... This marvelously busy structure is Lake Michigan Carferry's docking facility at Ludington.

The Grand Ledge, Michigan, railroad trestle from the Ledges Trail along the Grand River. Have a good year, everyone. Blessings.

Grand River Crossing

03 Dec 2005 93
The Grand River rail trestle in Grand Ledge, again; the last photo from our excursion a couple weekends back. This trestle is known locally as the "High Bridge," which suggests they've never seen an actual high bridge. Nonetheless, it's a substantial crossing and an impressive structure.

Trestle

The CSX (originally Pere Marquette) railroad trestle across the Grand River in Grand Ledge. I've shown you this bridge before. Among other things, it defines the boundary of GL's Fitzgerald Park. Another shot from the Ledges Trail this afternoon. Terrific light, but an ill-chosen camera setting washed out the sky. I gotta pay more attention to this stuff.

Marquette Downtown Ore Dock

10 Jan 2006 121
I'm reasonably sure Debbie-- Preacher Debra --took this photo. Marquette, Michigan's, Soo Line (DSS&A) dock , in 1977 (or perhaps 1978). The wooden trestle which connected the dock with the approaching tracks was removed a few years back; it was a glorious structure. And a fire hazard, and an obstruction to Marquette getting on with it's life. Nonetheless, I miss it. The dock itself remains; let's hope they find something to do with it. Reasonably sure, Jowo? Yup. This is from the same set as the Chief Wawatam photograph. As I said with that picture, the box is labelled Richard, but some pictures appear to be Debbie's.

Grand River Rail Bridge Ruin

This is an alternate treatment of the 366 Snaps photo I posted last June 26. The Northern Central Michigan Railway connected Jonesville (on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern, for whom they were likely a front) with Lansing in 1873 or thereabouts. The route included a Grand River crossing in Dimondale. There was a station in town, of course, I think near the north end of the bridge. Successor Michigan Central (itself part of the New York Central System) abandoned much of the Lansing/Jonesville line around 1940 and the tracks were pulled up as World War II began. The scrappers left this pier, another like it, and the north anchorage, all built of cut stone; there's been a nice house atop the anchorage as long as I've known the town. I've tried from time to time to capture this view, which is from the Bridge Street bridge. This photo came out well. As you can see, I processed it three different ways. Each, I think, brings out different details. ========== This photograph is an outtake (well, an alternate version, actually) from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . 366 Snaps project stats for June 26 .

Grand River Rail Bridge Ruin

While I was taking this photo I had a pleasant chat with a local resident about fishing in the Grand from the bridge. ========== This photograph is an outtake (actually an alternate treatment) from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . 366 Snaps project stats for June 26 .
