My brother, with camera. Both his Digital Rebel and my D70 were quite new on 3/6/2005; I'd had the Nikon for a couple weeks while he'd had the Canon for a bit longer. In neither case were these our first digital cameras, but they were our first DSLRs.

One last portrait for Dick 's birthday. Perhaps the best I've taken of him.

Dick tells me that Sharon , a longtime family friend, passed away on Friday. Photo taken at Battle Creek's C.O. Brown Stadium. Original photograph here . Somewhere I've got a photograph of Bielby at a bluegrass festival; we'll have to see if I can find it.

Happy birthday, Dick !

Dinda Family at Meijer Gardens

24 Nov 2005 123
My sister, Debra Jean ( Preacher Debra ), my mom, Hatti, and my brother, Richard ( Kalamazoo Richard ), at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids on Mother's Day, 2000. Shot with my Nikon N90s. Since we've just decided that driving 90 miles each way in today's weather wouldn't be a good way to spend Thanksgiving, I'll not be seeing Debbie & Dick for the holiday. So I'm posting my favorite picture of them. Thanksgiving blessings, everyone.

My brother, Dick ( Kalamazoo Richard ), round 'bout his eighteenth birthday (late 1971 or early 1972). A little fuzzy, and he looks so young . Note the peace symbol where his unit patch belongs.... Taken with my then-new Minolta SR-T 101. This negative was damaged in the camera (the whole roll of film's a mess) and I don't believe the developer printed this frame, so I'm pretty sure Richard's never seen this one. Sorry about the dirty scan, but the scratches seemed worth keeping.

Richard's Built In Bed

19 Jan 2006 92
Another previously-unseen photo of Kalamazoo Richard . Like this one , the developer never printed the picture, because it came from a damaged roll.... When we lived on Palmer, Dick & I shared an upstairs room with built-in beds. That's where he's sitting. Christmas or thereabouts, 1971/72. Camera: Minolta SR-T 101

Richard and the Little Cabin

It's Kalamazoo Richard 's birthday. Happy Birthday, bro! I thought I'd honor that event by posting a few photographs. Here he is, at age 18, frolicking in the yard at our cottage on Wall Lake in Delton, MIchigan. Spring, 1972. We'd had an ice storm; as you can see, it did lots of damage. We'd spend the day cleaning that up. The cottage was one of two our parents owned; they'd originally been rental units constituting half of a small lakeside resort. Mom & Dad were about to sell our Palmer Avenue home, and we'd live on the lake until moving into the Wellington Road place in December. Dick & I shared this little cottage; Mom, Dad, & Debbie stayed next door in the somewhat larger, and better-equipped, place. ---------------- I drove by Wall Lake a few weeks back, and was quite surprised to discover that the cottages were still standing. Many of their neighbors have been replaced with more substantial places; I expect these to eventually meet that fate.

My brother the birthday boy, sometime in 1978, on his bike. Gosh he was a skinny kid back then. He's posed on Wellington Road, in front of Mom & Dad's house . That yellow helmet was built by Mountain Safety Research ; it was adapted from a climbing helmet MSR sold at the time. Richard's saved his life when he was hit by a drunk driver and landed on the back of his head; when Dick traded it in for a new brain bucket they reported they'd not previously seen a helmet with back-of-the-head damage. Dick's about as hard-line about good helmets as anyone I know.... Roger Dinda photograph; unknown camera. Dick: Do you remember what Dad replaced the Argus with? Scanned from a print.

Age 51: Family Portrait

Today would have been Mom's 85th birthday. Photo by Richard Dinda , probably in April, certainly in 2000.

Age 42: Family

Proof--if anyone needs it--that it's possible to take an out-of-focus shot with what amounts to a box camera. Handed my Freedom 100 to then-uncle Jack, who attempted to take a family photo. Spring of 1991, on Mom's front porch. Jack and Mom's sister Violet had made a short stop in Kalamazoo on their way from somewhere to somewhere else. To bad the picture didn't work out; would have been a great shot.

Jowo, Kalamazoo Richard , & Preacher Debra ; we apparently did something awful back in 1962 and needed to be punished. I was obviously enjoying the experience. Weren't Dick & Debbie cute? Fort Michilimackinac State Park, Mackinaw City, Michigan (now called Colonial Michilimackinac , which is a better name). That would be the Mackinac Strait in the background.
