Mother's day, 2000 at Grand Rapids, Michigan: The women in my life get their first view of Nina Akamu's sculpture Leonardo's Horse , which was quite newly installed in the Sculpture Garden at Meijer Gardens at that time. Akamu's horse was based on plans and drawings Leonardo da Vinci completed for a commission he never built. It was chilly, there was a crowd up close to the display, and we'd really come to view the butterflies . So we settled for this distant view. Camera: Nikon N90s.
