Hawks Nest Crossing
03 Jun 2006 |
|
Just across the blue ridge, where the high meadows lay
And the galax spreads through the new mown hay,
There’s a rusty iron bridge, cross a shady ravine
Where the hard road ends and turns to clay.
With a suitcase in his hand there the lonesome boy stands,
Gazing at the river sliding by beneath his feet,
But the dark water springs from the black rocks and flows
Out of sight where the twisted laurel grows.
– Tommy Thompson , 1976

Grand River Crossing

The Grand River rail trestle in Grand Ledge, again; the last photo from our excursion a couple weekends back.
This trestle is known locally as the "High Bridge," which suggests they've never seen an actual high bridge. Nonetheless, it's a substantial crossing and an impressive structure.

The backside of Mulliken's Main Street in the background, shot from Railroad Street. That's the CSX (formerly Pere Marquette) mainline running off toward the horizon.
After a (necessary) break I'm starting to take photography seriously again. I can tell because I've started thinking of photos as technical problems, even with the fairly limiting camera that took this photo. (FWIW: That's a reaction to the light-colored stripe at the bottom of the sky....)
And early on my framing turns weird for a while.
