Operations Center

For several decades the Michigan Liquor Control Commission had a warehouse at the State Secondary Complex, near Dimondale. When MLCC abandoned that operation, the State planned to renovate the warehouse into an office building, but eventually came to their senses and built a new building in its place. And gave it this dreadful name. (Fits right in, that name; some other buildings in the complex are Photo Lab, Secretary of State Building, and [believe it or not] General Office Building. We're the ugly stepchildren of Michigan's government.)
Like at our building, the trees have an architectural-drawing look to them, but Ops Center's a lot newer and the trees might grow out of it. I rather like the way they're all in bloom this week; thus the picture.
When I tell my boss I'm going "across the bridge," this is where my meeting is. The photo is better LARGE , of course.

Two crops of the same picture.
I worked for 33 years in a building on the border of this protected wilderness area. Generally there are swans and geese; often there are more interesting species.

For over three decades I worked for the State of Michigan at the State Secondary Complex in Windsor Township. While the Secretary of State Building isn't particularly attractive (or comfortable), it borders on this very inviting natural area.
Joan often spends her breaks watching the birds, large and small, that call the place home.
==========
Eaton County's early settlers knew Windsor Township to be a large bog-- they called it the Old Maid's Swamp . The Old Maid covered much of Windsor and spilled into neighboring Delta, Benton, and Eaton Rapids townships.
The marsh has been largely tamed, though the township remains quite wet. The Secondary Complex swamp is perhaps the most obvious remnant of the daunting prospect the 1830s settlers encountered.

This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .

Other photos taken on 9/28/2012: The V1 came along on what was primarily a credit union trip, and I shot some color pix of the swamp as well, including several of one of the resident swans .
