Oreo Amongst the Books

Oreo decided she needed to help me photograph the books I'll be trying to sell over the next few days.

Reading Material

30 Mar 2014 1 140
Yup, I still read paper books. The nook has Kathleen Broome Williams' biography of Grace Hopper ("Admiral of the Cyber Sea") open, so today I'm getting a double dose of twentieth century biography. Two folks, pretty much exact contemporaries, who made significant marks on the world. George Ball's life story will make you think you wasted yours. Grace Hopper's, not so much, but very impressive all the same. Both are fun reads.

Wolfe Pack

Last February 13's 366 Snaps photo began with the title--The Wolfe Pack's an NYC-based Nero Wolfe fan club, and their web site contains a wealth of information about Stout's books. I had these titles stacked up so I could lend them to my sister. As you'd perhaps guess, I'm a Nero Wolfe fan m'self. This was a frustrating photo session. The light was terrible, so I kept adjusting the settings and changing angles in an effort to get a presentable image. Most were awful. I see I put a comment about that in the tags: "Gosh the Droid's a terrible camera." Regardless, the idea's a "funny-once" joke. Here I am repeating it.... ========== This photograph is an alternate version from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . Number of project photos taken: 21 Title of " roll :" Wolfe Pack Other photos taken on 2/13/2012: none.

Waiting for Intruder

04 Jan 2013 1 139
Today you get the original photograph that became last year's daily photo for this date. I'll talk about why in a minute.... C.J. Cherryh is my favorite novelist. Bar none. This series--everyone calls it after the first book in the sequence--has been her major project since Foreigner was published in 1994. At this time last year her fans were anticipating the publication of Intruder (thus the pic's title), which was released on March 6. We're now awaiting Protector , which is due on April 2, and CJ's calling her under-construction tale Peacemaker . BTW, Intruder's visible in the photo I posted for April 6 . ============== Some mornings you waken knowing what photograph you'll take. Last January 4 I snapped exactly three photographs: The first was out of focus, and the third framed the bookshelf differently (and de-emphasized Carolyn Cherryh's books). Since those defects remain problems, I've recovered the color original and posted it here. ========== This photograph is the day's original photo from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . Number of project photos taken: 3 (all similar, and with the same title) Title of "roll:" Cherryh Bookshelf Other photos taken on 1/4/2012: none
