Harvest Time

This is the same farm and work crew as the photo I posted earlier this afternoon, but from the other side and much closer.
Most of the local farmers are doing something similar--harvesting the crop with their combine, then dumping the grain into a hopper, where it waits for a truck to arrive and relieve the load.
Appears to work, but it sure seems like a messy workflow.
==========
I'm less than happy with this one. The photo came out OK--it's got decent detail, and shows all the equipment these folks are using--but all that dark on dark stuff is problematical....

That neat conveyor again, and the Ashtabula Coast Guard Station. The entry to Ashtabula Harbor--or part of the harbor, anyway. 1991.

Most days, I pass this farm--more than a "family farm," but less than a large corporate enterprise--on my way to work.

The unloading boom--and most of the deck--of the laker Herbert C. Jackson, at the Soo Locks in June of 2005. Most modern Great Lakes ships have self-unloading capabilities, which greatly increases their usefulness.

The harbor at Ashtabula, Ohio, on a cloudy but sunlit day in 1991. We'd started the day in Kalamazoo, driven to Erie, Pennsylvania, then began working our way back home with stops at most of Ohio's Lake Erie harbors. Each harbor has its own personality....
The "bridge" is a conveyor between the coal (taconite?) yard/dock (off the screen to your left) and the trains beyond the Coast Guard station. No idea what that ship is.

Added to Cream of the Crop as my current personal favorite picture.

Ashtabula, Ohio. Taken in 1991, on a day we spent wandering from harbor to harbor on the south shore of Lake Erie.
