The Trail to Emerson

06 May 2020 3 2 221
Emerson was a lumber town at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River on Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. It's gone; calling it a ghost town would exaggerate its current status. Basically there's nothing there. Except this trail to the site , in the Tahquamenon Falls State Park. It's a worthwhile walk. We visited it on the first day of July in 2003.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, June of 2003. My memory is that the bugs were awful; a few weeks later we walked the same trail under better conditions.

The Lower Falls are a series of cascades and rapids on two sides of an island, and are impossible to capture fully in a single photograph--or even in a series of photographs.

Kayaks!

I walked down to the river to watch the sunset. While I was there these kayakers arrived.

We spent last week at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Our campground had sort of a park along the Tahquamenon River.
