The Trail to Emerson

Emerson was a lumber town at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River on Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. It's gone; calling it a ghost town would exaggerate its current status. Basically there's nothing there.
Except this trail to the site , in the Tahquamenon Falls State Park. It's a worthwhile walk. We visited it on the first day of July in 2003.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, June of 2003.
My memory is that the bugs were awful; a few weeks later we walked the same trail under better conditions.

There's something about Michigan Audubon's Baker Sanctuary that brings out my Art Photo tendencies. Keep your eye on this space....

In 2003 I was writing sort of a blog about the Battle Creek Yankees and took this photograph to illustrate it. Non-baseball events overtook that project and it's long-since been taken down; perhaps someday I'll restore it.
The pitcher's Sam Smith of the South Bend Silver Hawks, and the ballyard's CO Brown Stadium in Battle Creek's Bailey Park. Photo taken 6/23/2003.

Today'd have been my mother's 92nd birthday. Thought I'd post her picture.
Here she is on Christmas day in 2002. She was 76 years old and dying from cancer.
