Eagle!

Sometimes the 366 Snaps shots were planned, and sometimes they just kind of happened. A year ago, things were somewhere between.
I ate breakfast in Grand Ledge last December 14, and was sitting in Sophia's considering where I might take the daily photo. This led to a short inventory of the local small towns. Eagle, I thought. I haven't visited Eagle!
Eagle's the oldest of the near-by settlements, on the Grand River road. It's really quite close to Mulliken, but there's a river in the way and getting from one to the other is a bit of a pain. Like Mulliken, it's historically a grain elevator town, but the elevator's out of business. The town's most notable, though, for its tiny fairground. I thought I might get a photo of that. Got in the car, clicked a neat photo of the GL elevator , and headed for Eagle.
I did take a few fairground pix, but found some more interesting photographs....
==========
Within my memory there was a sidetrack to the Eagle elevator, but like most of the local seed and grain operations it's been superceded by larger competitors--and the tracks have long-since been pulled up.
The silo still looks rather nice in silhouette, methinks.
The 366 Snaps shot was of Swampers store, which is across the road from both the town's bar and the fairground. And, in its way, a classic....
==========
This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .
Number of project photos taken: 20
Title of " roll :" Eagle & thereabouts
Other photos taken on 12/14/2012: I was running an errand in the afternoon and noticed there was a large fire happening--well, somewhere. Since I wanted to get the errand run, I avoided the location, but by the time I'd reached my destination I knew pretty well where the fire was. Completing my errand, I headed for the fire site, and caught a few pix .
Hardware Store Statue

Vermontville, Michigan, next to the local hardware store. This one's really quite a fine piece. One of these days I'll go back and take some better photographs.
Don't know much about these statues except that they're there.
Silver River Falls

Near Eagle Harbor, extreme northern Michigan. Considering that the falls are accessible from the highway, that there are always photographers wandering around the place, and the the falls and bridge are quite picturesque, there are really very few photos of the place on the web....
Eagle Harbor Light

Explored! #171 on Flickr [February 9, 2008] Thanks!
Your classic postcard shot of the delightful light at Eagle Harbor, on Lake Superior in Michigan's Copper Country. Now a museum of local history, and well worth the visit. Yes, I pushed the color a bit.
The light is still functioning.
