Reflections on IDS

27 Aug 2019 134
Spent a couple nights in the Twin Cities in April. Here's the view from my room at The Marquette. When I was a college senior, IDS Tower was the tallest building between the Mississippi and the west coast. Or something like that. These days 'tain't even clear that it's the tallest building in Minneapolis. It's still quite impressive, nonetheless.

The View from Room 806

From the Park Place Hotel in Traverse City. We were hoping for better scenery when we made the reservation. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay. A downtown hotel has its advantages. Photo taken 3/5/2017.

Another photo from the Cooper's Glen Music Festival in Kalamazoo. Sometimes you point the camera and get lucky.

The Extraordinary Anne Hills

At the Cooper's Glen Music Festival last night, in Kalamazoo. I've probably heard Anne 20 or 25 times. Can't think of any musician I've heard more often.

I wanted something more cheerful after watching the snow all day, so here's some color from September of 2010. The east arm of Grand Traverse Bay, from the Pointes North Inn (room 309, as it happens). The stretch of beach with no buildings is the state park.

Fayette State Park, Michigan. I've explained about Fayette --one of my favorite places--before. More than once . Photo taken with a Minolta Zoom 110 in 1981.

Lake Michigan

Best LARGE . My father walked beaches, so I grew up walking beaches. Mom would pack a lunch, we'd pile in the car and head to South Haven or St. Joe or wherever. We'd walk, sometimes for hours. Then for a long time I didn't walk beaches. Now I walk beaches again, though not as often as I'd like. This one happens to be Muskegon State Park. Explored (#50 on Wednesday, September 19, 2007). Thanks! (No longer in the top 500. Explore is mysterious.)

Muskegon State Park

Shot from the breakwater at the end of the channel at Muskegon, looking at the small beach within the larger breakwater which protects the harbor. I particularly like the peculiar clouds, which are probably more visible in the larger sizes. It was a glorious day at the beach.
