Ocqueoc Falls

A photo with youngsters to give you a sense of scale. This is a small waterfall.
One of the things we learned from Thursday's visit to Ocqueoc was that there's a trail along the river. So on Saturday, with better weather. we returned to the Falls and went for a short hike.
The little park at the falls was just loaded with people on Saturday. We encountered several who'd come fairly long distances just to see the fall; all expressed disappointment.

Twin Lakes State Park, Michigan's Copper Country (near Toivola). Methinks the picture speaks for itself.
Ice on the Birdbath

A year ago things froze up for the first time. So the birdbath became my 366 Snaps subject.
Later in the day I tried again to photograph the Pine Siskins. These pix were better, but still nothing to publish. Photographing birds really isn't a job for a 50mm lens.

It's Raining

Explored #183 (8/13/2013, but no longer in the day's top 500). Thanks!
Since I didn't want to brave the weather last August 10, my 366 Snaps shots were taken inside the house.
Several of 'em were of the rain on various windows....

Actually, I had an idea for a daily photo: I'd shoot a pic of Joan's CD collection. This turned out to be surprisingly difficult, as poor light and the small room worked against me. The bigger problem was the minimum focus distance for the lens, which forced me to lean against the far wall of the room. The smaller problem was that exposures were in the quarter-second range.
I worked at improving the light. I got serious about steadying the camera. I tried several ways to frame the picture. I shot several dozen photographs. Eventually I made a capture I was willing to share.

Other photos taken on 8/10/2012: A grey day, but by noon the rain had stopped. All afternoon I was shooting pix of birds at feeders, using both Nikons. I'm pretty sure we never saw any sunshine...
Skylight Reflections

This reflection photograph's been the wallpaper on my laptop for the past year.
This is one of my favorite 366 Snaps outtakes--in fact, it's one of my favorite photographs from the entire photo-a-day project. These skylight reflections can be annoying if you're inside one of the rooms above them, but from the outside they make delightful patterns on the walls.

Another day at the hospital. I've mentioned the boredom of hospital days, but it's important to mention that we were near panic late last July, as my sister'd had a very rough weekend.
The day's 366 Snaps photos were shot along Gull Road--the hospital, the businesses across from the hospital, the cemetery, the Juvenile Home, and the courthouse attached to the Juvie. It's a surprisingly good set.
Oh, yes. I found these daylilies at the hospital's main entrance, and had to photograph them. I may be addicted to daylily photographs.

I discussed the Juvie yesterday (another photo below); I've nothing to add today.

The Fan

I love the fan in our kitchen, and occasionally try to photograph it. I'd finally post its pic to 366 Snaps on July 16 . I'm not entirely certain this one isn't better. What they aren't is alike .
==========
I took photographs in the kitchen and living room last February 16--eight of the fan, four of the fruit bowl, four of my shoes, and five of Taffy. These were all low-light photographs and it's clear that I was experimenting with the camera app's settings.
Nearly all of the day's photographs were good. I'd reuse some of these ideas later in the 366 project.

Reflect and Refract

The wall in our living room. Some days photography really is playing with light....
Unlike the Cybershot, the Bionic has a monochrome mode, so my February 2012 photographs were almost exclusively taken in black and white. This picture's color is the unintentional product of a bug, which I mentioned a couple days back --if I set the phone's camera to b&w, then changed other settings, it lost the monochrome.
Looks like this bug's been fixed, though I've not made extensive tests.

The 366 Snaps photo--"The Shed at the End of Main Street"--drew interesting (and very different) comments on Flickr and Facebook. WindsorDi pointed out that someone loved the shed, as evidenced by its decorations, while Lane Smith riffed on the picture's title.

Glasses
02 Feb 2013 |
|
|
Last February 2 I shot a half-dozen photos in the kitchen, and played with those in the Little Photo app's post-processing tools. Then I (again) loaded one of the photographs directly to Flickr (and Facebook) from the phone.
These wine glasses and plates live (unsurprisingly, I suppose) in our china cabinet. I don't think I tried this photo later in the year with a more capable camera, and am a bit surprised.
==========
Why change cameras every month for the day-by-day? Several reasons:
* I had the cameras (lenses) to pull it off.
* (Re)learning how to use each camera(/lens) would give me a project focus, and some monthly variety. I'd learned from watching other folks' 365 projects that keeping your interest up is a real issue.
* Every camera has limits, strengths, and weaknesses. Coping with those would help fend off the boredom, and sometimes spark creativity. It would, moreover, be educational.
