The water levels are way down .

Waterfall, near Kaymoor ruins

02 Oct 2005 104
This waterfall's on the trail to Kaymoor One mine site in West Virginia's New River Valley. It's a tall thing; the photo shows less than half of the cascade. Just of bit of Joan showing on the bridge.... Photo taken with my Nikon N90s

The High Falls

Another view of the Pigeon River's tall waterfall; extreme northern Minnesota (part of this photo shows Canada). I've really nothing to add to the note I wrote a few days back ....

The High Falls of the Pigeon River

Explored #268 (8/15/2013). Thanks! The Pigeon River defines the border between the United States and Canada at the western end of Lake Superior. The Pigeon's rapids, including this waterfall, are the reason most everything in this part of Minnesota--the local Indian reservation, a national monument, the state park which follows the border--is called Grand Portage; you had to portage this area to reach the calmer waters the fur traders used for transportation. This fall's at least 100 feet; some sources report it as 120....

Immanuel

Looking out from the church office at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rock Falls, Illinois, where Debbie spent her internship. Pretty glass....

Rooflines

20 Aug 2005 163
Rock Falls, Illinois. A dreadfully busy snapshot of a house I spotted while we were loading Debbie's stuff into the truck. I love the roofline, and the odd porch. Mebbe someday I'll try doing the ericdege thing to this one....

Tahquamenon

The falls--both upper and lower--were really quite spectacular today. This color is really quite close to accurate. Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River, Paradise, Michigan.

Upper Falls

Explored! #457 [July 23, 2007, but no longer in the top 500] Thanks! Tahquamenon Falls State Park, in upper Michigan. Generally I'm disapointed in my photos of this massive waterfall, but I think this one came out pretty well.

Lower Falls

31 Aug 2005 79
Looks best large . Tahquamenon Falls State Park, near enough Paradise for most purposes. The lower falls are not a single fall; they're a series of rapids which surround a fairly large island in the Tahquamenon River. This photo captures the rushing, darkly-colored water about as well as any I've taken.

Upper Falls

Two years ago we were also vacationing up north; of course I have pix.... Tahquamenon Falls State Park, near Paradise, Michigan. The water's brown in the picture because, well, the water is brown.

Silver River Falls

25 Jul 2005 109
Near Eagle Harbor, extreme northern Michigan. Considering that the falls are accessible from the highway, that there are always photographers wandering around the place, and the the falls and bridge are quite picturesque, there are really very few photos of the place on the web....

Ocqueoc Falls

23 Aug 2013 1 103
Last August 18 we decided to make a second trip to Ocqueoc Falls, with the explicit intention of walking the trail along the river. So that's what we did.... An excellent walk. I got some good pictures, too . With both cameras. To emphasize something I've said before: If you're fairly near Ocqueoc--say, in Mackinaw City--you should visit the place. On the other hand, it's not a destination worth building a vacation around, and probably not worth a long trip. ========== The 366 Snaps photo, of Buddy the friendly chipmunk, was a concession to cuteness. Or something. ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . Number of project photos taken: 15 Title of " roll :" Ocqueoc Other photos taken on 8/18/2012: Discussed above.
