Take Me Out

The Lansing Lugnuts were scheduled to open their home season today, against the Dayton Dragons at what they used to call Oldmobile Park. I was planning to be there, in my favorite seat (that would be Section N, Row 4, Seat 8--directly behind the visiting team's dugout). But of course they're not playing, so we'll settle for this photo from a Lansing/Dayton game on 4/23/2013. The batter's Seth Mejias-Brean, and the catcher is Santiago Nessy. (Sorry; haven't got the ump's name at my fingertips; I photographed the game but didn't score it--which is unusual. [Ted Turocy tells me it's Blake Mickelson.]) My next two photos show that this swing resulted in a popup, but I don't know where it landed or whether someone caught it.

Pretty sure I took this photo in Moultenborough, New Hampshire, at The Loon Center . If that is correct, this is a little corner of Lake Winnipesaukee. Very pretty. In many ways this stop was the highlight of our 2000 New Hampshire vacation.

Felix Escalona (I'm pretty sure, but not absolutely certain) scoring for the 2000 Michigan Battle Cats at Battle Creek's CO Brown Stadium. The Cats were a Houston farm club in 2000, and Escalona's teammates included John Buck, Mike Gallo, and Jason Lane. Chad Qualls and Roy Oswalt were both on the 1999 team. (So was Minnesota's Johan Santana.) (Just imagine that....) 2001? We had Chris Burke. Needless to say, I'm rooting for Houston. Felix made it to the majors with the Devil Rays, and is now an occasional Yankee . Camera: Nikon N90s
