My favorite of yesterday's pix. Pretty sure this one's a female House Sparrow.

Above a different feeder. Believe it or not, this was a test for my monopod's rebuilt mount....

Just a reminder that although I had the D300 set to take monochrome photographs all of last year, my software ignores the "mono" flag in the NEF file ( NEF is Nikon's Camera RAW format ). As I've said before, B&W is partially an attitude .
Through the viewfinder this photograph was almost entirely shades of green (Facebook link). And quite glorious.

This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .

Title of " roll :" Birds
Other photos taken on 5/19/2012: We were working in our yard a year ago--I've photos of Joan hard at work in the veggie garden, of my little tractor pulling its little trailer, of new-purchased plants. The Daily Flower Census found Cranesbill and Painted Daisies and Dames Rocket and Snow on the Mountain and Irises. Lots of Irises. And ( wait for it ) Spirea.

This House Sparrow, eating on the pedestal feeder, was photographed through a gap in the pickets that surround our porch. Have I mentioned that I love my 300 mm lens?

Last May 12 it rained. You'll perhaps recall that rain was a rarity last spring, so I celebrated by photographing the raindrops. And wet birds.
This is an alternate crop of the photo I posted a year ago. Right at the moment I prefer this version. This is where the 300 mm lens just shines.

Other photos taken on 5/12/2012: The rain had let up a couple hours later; I found some very wet irises and had a run-in with a cat . The Spirea was opening, too. Later in the day I found a swallow on the weather station .
