Harvest Time

This is the same farm and work crew as the photo I posted earlier this afternoon, but from the other side and much closer. Most of the local farmers are doing something similar--harvesting the crop with their combine, then dumping the grain into a hopper, where it waits for a truck to arrive and relieve the load. Appears to work, but it sure seems like a messy workflow. ========== I'm less than happy with this one. The photo came out OK--it's got decent detail, and shows all the equipment these folks are using--but all that dark on dark stuff is problematical....

Barn on Mulliken Road

I've been playing with DxO's OpticsPro photo processing software all afternoon. Thought I'd share a few examples. Another photo from last week, this barn's in Roxand Township, south of Mulliken. The object was to bring out the details in the wood without butchering the color palette. I succeeded, but paid for it a little by losing details on the roof.

A dirty job; somebody's got to do it. The combine's just dumped part of its load into the orange trailer and has turned to make its next pass through the wheat. The chaff goes out the chute; the wheat stays in the harvester. I found this guy by keeping my eye out for the characteristic cloud of dust. There's a bigger truck waiting for it to arrive at the other end of the field. In the past three days nearly every wheat field in Roxand Township's been harvested. Clearly it's time.

The roofers brought along this trailer. It was an interesting critter....

And shake shingles! Another Springport photo.... This appears to be part of the Love's Sawmill complex, though this building does not show in any of the other pix. Wonderful old place, regardless. Camera: Minolta Freedom 100; 1988.

Pretty outside today, but quite chilly.

From under the trailer to under the shed.

This one turned out better than I expected.... I knew we'd be heading back to the hospital on February 20th, so I hurried. Shot some rapid-fire sun-and-shadow pics in the house and through the windows, and got a few photos on my trip to Mulliken Thriftway. Under the circumstances the set came out well. ========== Daily 366 Snaps pic: There are a half-dozen or so houses at the south edge of Mulliken on M-43. Most began as small shelters and grew haphazardly--except for the large Italianate place I used for the daily photo. That house, I think, is the largest home in the community. I thought for a while I'd use these interesting structures for a 366-dailies sub-project, but never completed it. One house showed up as my March 3 project photo, and you'll see one or two more amongst the outtakes. Not sure why I lost this thread. ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .
