Louis R. Desmarais

CSL's Louis R. Desmarais--now known as CSL Laurentian --northbound on the St. Clair River at Port Huron, Michigan, in June of 1999. The old Blue Water Bridge is in the background, and the new bridge is under construction just to the north. Yes, she was bright red. There's enough paint scraped off that hull to cover a small house. Mine, for instance. The name change was concurrent with a major rebuild; Laurentian has a very different bow, and hardly looks like the same ship. I liked this version better, but my opinion really doesn't matter. Shot with my Nikon N90s.

Canadian Olympic

One last laker: I'd already packed away my camera and was planning just to watch the passing scenery on the return trip when this ship popped out into Lake Huron. So I hurriedly dug out the gear and shot this pic. Glad I did so. The Olympic was launched in 1976 and named to honor the Montreal Olympics.

Algorail @ Port Huron

An earlier photo of Algorail , under the Blue Water Bridge in 1999. The Blue Water area at its best. Shot from Port Huron's waterfront park. That's the Lightship Huron museum just beyond the girl. The second bridge was under construction.... Camera: Nikon N90s
